Trello alternative

Done vs Trello

A Trello alternative for when the card should end with the work done, not just moved to Done.

Trello made the kanban board everyone's default: lists, cards, drag and drop, and automation built into every board. It has grown an Inbox that captures from email, Slack and Teams, a Planner that puts cards on your Google or Outlook calendar, AI features on paid plans, and an official MCP server so Claude or ChatGPT can read and update a workspace. What a card can't do is have an agent as its owner, wait for your approval when the agent says it's finished, or carry the agent's question back to you. Done is built around that loop.

Weighted scorecard

Each product gets a score from 0 to 5 on eight criteria, with a one-line reason. The weights say how much each criterion counts, and the total is the weighted average, out of 5.

The default weights reflect a buyer handing work to AI agents, the person Done is built for, so they favour Done. Pick another buyer and the weights change: for a team running sprints, or for a personal list without AI, other apps often come out ahead.

Who Trello is for

Trello is for teams and individuals who think visually in boards, want something everyone understands in five minutes, and like a free plan that covers a small team of up to ten.

Why people choose Done

  • Assign a card's worth of work to an AI agent and get the result back on the task
  • An approval gate: agent work waits for you before it counts as done
  • Agents can park a question for you and move on to the next task
  • Import your Trello board's CSV export in a few clicks

Where Trello shines

Trello is the easiest board there is to start with and to get a team to adopt. Automation is built into every board, Power-Ups connect it to hundreds of tools, Premium adds timeline, calendar and table views, and the Planner turns cards into time on your calendar. Its official MCP server works on every plan, free included.

Frequently asked questions

Does Trello work with Claude or ChatGPT?

Yes. Trello has an official MCP server at mcp.trello.com that signs in with OAuth, works on every plan, and connects one workspace at a time, so an assistant can read and update your boards. It doesn't make the agent a card's owner or hold its work for your approval; that's the part Done adds.

Can I move from Trello to Done?

Yes. Export your board as CSV from Trello and import it in Done under Settings → Data, or preview it first at trydone.app/import. Done recognizes Trello's export, including archived cards.

Does Done have boards like Trello?

Yes, Done has a board view whose columns can be status, priority or project, and dragging a card changes that field. Trello goes further for teams, with Power-Ups, timeline and table views and built-in automation.
