Hand off task

handoff_task
Write

What it does

Pass a task you own to ANOTHER named agent on the roster, mid-flow — e.g. you built the lead list, now it's Instinct's outreach. The task moves to that agent's queue immediately: your claim is released, it returns to not_started so their next_task picks it up, and your note is posted to the thread. The whole task — notes, criteria, deliverables, comments — travels with it, so put in the note what's done, what's next and where your output is. agent_ok is reset to false on every handoff: trust a human granted for your part doesn't carry to the next agent's, so they end at propose_completion unless a human turns it back on. Refused for: a task not in your lane, handing to yourself, an agent not on the roster (see list_agents), and tasks waiting on a human (pending_approval, plan_proposed) or closed. To give work back to nobody, use decline_task instead. Only on accounts with an agent roster.

Parameters

NameTypeRequiredDescription
idstringRequired
tostringRequired

The receiving agent's name, as list_agents returns it (case-insensitive).

notestringRequired

What you did, what's left, where your output lives. Posted as a comment.

agentstringOptional

Your agent id when running as part of a fleet — the one you claimed with. Handing off fails while a different agent holds an active lease.

Annotations

The hints the server sends with this tool. A host reads them to decide whether to ask you before a call.

Changes data in your Done account.
DestructivedestructiveHint: false
Only adds or reads; nothing already there is removed or overwritten.
IdempotentidempotentHint: false
Each call can add something new, such as a comment, a run or a task.
Open worldopenWorldHint: false
Touches only your own Done account.

Which tokens can call it

A connection made with OAuth has full access. A token from Settings → Agent access → Extra MCP tokens can be narrowed, and a narrowed token never sees beyond its project or workspace.
