Search context

search_context
Read-onlyOpen world

What it does

Search the human's connected apps for something to read. Returns HITS, never bodies: each carries a connection_id and a ref to hand to read_context, plus a title, a kind (file, note, issue, message, transcript, email, insight) and a link. With no provider it asks every connection that can answer, which is usually what you want — the human knows the spec is in Drive rather than Notion; you shouldn't have to. Be aware of what each search actually matches, because they differ and none of them is a full-text search of everything: Drive matches file names and contents, GitHub searches issues and pull requests (NOT code — read a file by ref instead), Slack searches messages, Notion searches page titles and text, Fireflies and Granola match meeting TITLES only, so a phrase said in a meeting won't find it, and PostHog matches saved insight names (reading one returns its latest cached numbers; it never runs a new query). A failures array means a connection is broken or was narrowed — tell the human to reconnect that one rather than reporting the whole search as failed.

Annotations

The hints the server sends with this tool. A host reads them to decide whether to ask you before a call.

Read-onlyreadOnlyHint: true
Changes nothing.
DestructivedestructiveHint: false
Only adds or reads; nothing already there is removed or overwritten.
IdempotentidempotentHint: —
Doesn't apply: the tool changes nothing.
Open worldopenWorldHint: true
Reaches outside Done, into an app you connected.

Which tokens can call it

A connection made with OAuth has full access. A token from Settings → Agent access → Extra MCP tokens can be narrowed, and a narrowed token never sees beyond its project or workspace.

  • Read-only tokenAllowed
  • Single-project tokenRefused
  • Single-workspace tokenRefused
