MCP servers for to-do apps

Things 3 MCP server

No. Cultured Code's own support page says Things doesn't offer a direct connection to Claude or ChatGPT. Community MCP servers exist, and they run on your Mac through the methods Things already exposes.

No official server · community servers

How to connect it

  1. Pick a community server that uses the methods Cultured Code lists as safe: the Things URL scheme, Shortcuts or AppleScript. hald/things-mcp is one, built on Things.py and the URL scheme.
  2. In Things' settings, turn on Enable Things URLs, which URL-scheme servers need.
  3. Add the server to Claude Desktop or Claude Code as a local server, following its README.

What it can do

  • Read your lists and add or update to-dos and projects, depending on the server
  • Run locally on your Mac, so your data stays on the device

What it doesn't do

  • None of them is made or supported by Cultured Code.
  • They need a Mac that's on; there's no hosted endpoint for a phone or a web assistant.
  • Cultured Code warns that third-party tools vary in quality and safety, and against any that claim an official link.

Staying on Things 3?

Staying on Things? Prefer a server that works through the URL scheme or AppleScript over one that asks for your Things Cloud password — that's the line Cultured Code draws.

When Done makes sense instead

Done is a to-do app built for handing work to an AI agent, with the parts an agent needs before you trust it with real tasks:

  • An approval gate: by default an agent can propose that a task is finished, but only you can close it. Done enforces that, so it holds even if an agent tries to skip it.
  • Questions instead of guesses: an agent parks a decision with its recommendation, and you answer in one click.
  • Plans before work: an agent can propose a plan that waits for your yes before it starts.
  • Lanes: name your agents and pin each task to one, so two agents don't pick up the same work.
  • Scoped access: tokens that are read-only or limited to one project or workspace, and budgets an agent can't raise.

Moving takes one step

Things has no CSV export. Select the to-dos you want, copy them, and use Paste a list on Done's import preview.

Done's import preview shows exactly what lands — projects, tasks, due dates, priorities — before you create an account, and nothing is uploaded.
