Asana MCP server
Yes. Asana runs an official MCP server, now on its V2 endpoint at mcp.asana.com/v2/mcp. It signs in with your own Asana account over OAuth, and Asana publishes ready-made apps for Claude and ChatGPT.
https://mcp.asana.com/v2/mcpHow to connect it
- Claude or ChatGPT: add the Asana app from the client's app or connector directory and sign in to Asana.
- Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code and other clients: add https://mcp.asana.com/v2/mcp as a Streamable HTTP server with OAuth.
- If the client asks for a client ID and secret, create them in Asana's developer console as its docs describe.
- Still on the old beta address (mcp.asana.com/sse)? Asana deprecated it and set May 11, 2026 as its shutdown date, so switch to V2.
What it can do
- Find and create tasks
- List a project's sections and check project status
- Summarize and report on project data
- Run inside your normal Asana permissions, with admin controls over which clients can connect on Enterprise plans
What it doesn't do
- Asana doesn't publish a fixed tool list; its docs tell you to run tools/list to see the current tools.
- Its docs don't describe limiting an agent to read-only or to one project beyond your own Asana permissions.
- Its docs don't describe a way for an agent to park a question for you and wait for the answer.
- A workspace admin can block the app, and then has to approve it for your domain.
Staying on Asana?
For a team that lives in Asana, the official server is the right choice: it respects the permissions you already set, and admins can control which AI clients connect.
When Done makes sense instead
Done is a to-do app built for handing work to an AI agent, with the parts an agent needs before you trust it with real tasks:
- An approval gate: by default an agent can propose that a task is finished, but only you can close it. Done enforces that, so it holds even if an agent tries to skip it.
- Questions instead of guesses: an agent parks a decision with its recommendation, and you answer in one click.
- Plans before work: an agent can propose a plan that waits for your yes before it starts.
- Lanes: name your agents and pin each task to one, so two agents don't pick up the same work.
- Scoped access: tokens that are read-only or limited to one project or workspace, and budgets an agent can't raise.
Moving takes one step
In Asana, open the project, click the ▾ next to its name → Export/Print → CSV.
Done's import preview shows exactly what lands — projects, tasks, due dates, priorities — before you create an account, and nothing is uploaded.
