Todoist MCP server
Yes. Doist, the company behind Todoist, runs an official, hosted MCP server at ai.todoist.net/mcp. You sign in with OAuth, so there's no API token to paste, and its open-source code lists more than 40 tools.
https://ai.todoist.net/mcpHow to connect it
- Claude or Claude Desktop: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste https://ai.todoist.net/mcp, then sign in to Todoist when asked.
- Claude Code: run the command below, then use /mcp to sign in the first time a Todoist tool runs.
- Cursor and other clients that only run local servers: point them at the same URL through the mcp-remote bridge, as Doist's README shows.
claude mcp add --transport http todoist https://ai.todoist.net/mcpWhat it can do
- Find, add, update, complete, reopen and reschedule tasks
- Manage projects, sections, labels, comments, reminders and filters
- Read your activity, completed tasks and productivity stats
- Work with shared projects and assign tasks to collaborators
What it doesn't do
- There's no approval step: when an agent completes a task, it's completed.
- Its docs don't describe a way for an agent to stop and ask you a question in Todoist instead of guessing.
- Its docs don't describe read-only or single-project access; the OAuth grant covers your account.
- Doist calls the project early-stage and suggests trying writes on a test project first.
Staying on Todoist?
If you're happy in Todoist, use Doist's own server rather than a third-party bridge: it's hosted, maintained by the people who make the app, and signs in with OAuth instead of a pasted API token.
When Done makes sense instead
Done is a to-do app built for handing work to an AI agent, with the parts an agent needs before you trust it with real tasks:
- An approval gate: by default an agent can propose that a task is finished, but only you can close it. Done enforces that, so it holds even if an agent tries to skip it.
- Questions instead of guesses: an agent parks a decision with its recommendation, and you answer in one click.
- Plans before work: an agent can propose a plan that waits for your yes before it starts.
- Lanes: name your agents and pin each task to one, so two agents don't pick up the same work.
- Scoped access: tokens that are read-only or limited to one project or workspace, and budgets an agent can't raise.
Moving takes one step
In Todoist, open a project, then ⋯ → Export as a template → Export as a file (CSV). Repeat per project.
Done's import preview shows exactly what lands — projects, tasks, due dates, priorities — before you create an account, and nothing is uploaded.
